A Next Level Eye-Opener
And
immediately there fell from
his eyes
as it had been scales
and he received sight forthwith, and
arose, and was baptized.
-Act
9:18 KJV
Many sermons
have been written with regards to Saul of Tarsus being struck down on the road
to Damascus, but I would like to share one key point with you about Saul's
recovery from his one-on-one interaction with the risen Jesus. Saul
eventually regained his sight and lost those scales that sat heavily upon his
eyes. He went on to eat and gain his strength, then preach in the
synagogues that Christ was the Son of God (Acts 9:19-20). Saul's
eye-opening experience allowed him to see things differently and preach with
vigor.
God wants to use
each and every one of us to reach others for His glory. However, if we
recall what it took for us to turn our lives around, before or after baptism, we
would realize that God had to strike us with something for an eye-opener.
Your eye-opener may not be the same as mine or your other neighbor's, but we all
have experienced an eye-opener with God.
To be totally
honest, we need to not just recall being struck by God. We must recall the
call upon our lives once the scales fell from our eyes. We need to
remember that we received sight as an entryway to seeing and doing things
differently, especially as children of God. Take today as an opportunity
to move your faith to another level of action because of your eye-opener.
We can serve without ministering; we cannot minister without serving.
